Lady came into our life by chance, we had lost our first Heeler, Cheeky at 17. Which had left the family devastated for he went everywhere with us, if he did no go then none of us did.
even though we got another Heeler from Mrs Lord he became our son's dog and left use when our son moved out.
Almost a year after Cheeky death my wife and I went for a drive to Ormskirk, now I know that road like the back of my hand so why did I make a wrong turning and go through Tarleton instead of Croston, it was fate I guess for on our way past Sollom my wife spotted a sign saying heeler puppies for sale, my wife turned to me and said she would like another one of our own but it was agreed that we would only call in on the way back and if we where meant to have one then they would still be there on our way back, and so it was we called on the way back and yes they still had some puppies left. A young girl on hearing that we would maybe like one came out of the house with a whole arm full and placed them on the lawn.

One came up to my wife, and to us the same words from someone else in your in memory page choose my wife and curled up in her arms, we could not go home with out her.
She made a lovely Lady the name could not have been chosen better and had a lovely heeler smile. when I was struck down with an heart attack and started on the road to recovery I was told by my doctor to sit out in the sun and Lady would come and sit in my arms, the only time she would leave me was to see some one off.
My but she was a handful, she loved her ball and would have us throw it for hours, if we did not then the whole street knew about it, and on our caravanning trips my wife would take her on the dog walk, you could tell where they were by the exited barks, she would always find a stone and that had to be thrown all round the dog walk and if it was not thrown quick enough them the caravan site knew about it.
She was family dog and very protective of us all, jump!, I had to increase the height of the fence from four foot to five to stop her going for the postman, one day we thought the window cleaner had left our garden so we let her out to bark him off the premises as was her norm, but he was still round the corner of the house, we heard such a crash, the window cleaner said that she came round the corner saw him and came at him like a jet plane, it cost us a new fencing panel where he had tried to jump the fence before she nipped him, she did not like men visiting and all my friends walked out of the garden backwards for some reason.
Then 12 months ago she had a small heart attach at home. We took her to the vet who gave her an injection and some pills for her heart which she had to take for the rest of her days, but he warned us she could have another at anytime she never fully recovered from this but she had another happy twelve months with us before she was struck down with a stroke while barking at the dustbin men, again we took her to the vet who gave her an injection and some pills to take over night and asked to see her again the following day, but it was not to be.
Late that night she had another stroke and we had to call out the emergency vet in Chorley, mean while Lady was making the must heart wrenching noises. we rushed her to the vets and the vet on examining her confirmed that it was another stroke and told us that she was in terrible pain, oh what a hell of a decision to make after fifteen happy years together and after her having given so much love, I asked the vet to sedate her first which she said she would do (It was a lady vet), thank God she did and thank you Lady, she died in my wife's arms before the vet could administer the fatal injection, at least we were spared that.
She is buried now in our front garden, the garden she loved to go into.
We miss her so much, she left us six weeks ago and even now I a grown man I am close to tears.
Rest in Peace our Lovely Lady you will never be forgotten and we miss your beautiful smile.

A short life but not without purpose and meaning, She loved and was loved dearly. While on earth she lived everyday with great energy and passion for life, she was so happy. Theres never a day goes by I don't think of my Nikki but the memories are of the happy times we spent together. I witnessesed her first breath of life and witnessed the end of her life. She was perfection. I feel so blessed to have had the time I had with her. She was so special. I will always miss her. Kay

In loving Memory of Muffin August 3rd 1991 to October 17th 2005

|
Our first memory of Muffin was on a rain swept day at the end of September 1991 at Mrs Enid Lords (her breeder) house. We had just got back from honeymoon and driven straight up to Preston in Lancashire to pick up a puppy reserved for us as a wedding present by my Aunt Milly, herself a Lancashire Heeler owner. We did not know which puppy we were going to have only that we would like to have a bitch. As we sat in Mrs Lord’s kitchen in raced 5 little black and Tan tornados! I remember sitting down on the floor as they bounded round the room, then after a few minutes one came up to me and quietly climbed into my lap, we had been chosen! Muffin didn’t have brown eyebrows and was quite dark compared to her brothers and sisters, she wasn’t the best of the litter, but she had chosen us, and that was all that mattered.
On the drive back down south she was very inquisitive of her new surroundings and although we had been warned that she might get car sick, not a bit of it she was eager to share our tuna fish sandwiches!
Back in London as we lived then, she soon began to rule our lives she became a regular on Wandsworth Common and Richmond Park. She hated being on her own and came everywhere with us in the car, if we left her at home we would get a dirty protest! At night she insisted on sleeping on our bed and if we put her downstairs she would bark all night until we gave in and when that didn’t work she would chew up the furniture! Then when she was nine months old I gave birth to Twin daughters. At first we were worried that she would be jealous of the girls but again she surprised us by being very protective of the twins. We always made sure that once the twins were in bed we made time to play with her and for the first time she began to sleep downstairs quite happily. She loved balls especially footballs, she was the only dog I know who could play football using her feet as well as her nose to dribble the ball, it was quite amazing to watch.
In 1993 we moved to our present house here in West Sussex, and with eight acres of garden and surrounded by countryside she revelled in her new freedom. After putting in a cat flap for the cat, it took Muffin less than 5 minutes to realise that she could also use it to get access to the garden when ever she wished, she was a remarkably intelligent dog. In 1994 we decided that it was time to get her a companion, so back to Mrs Lord we went and that Christmas Waffle entered our lives. Waffle is Muffins half sister, same dame different sire we assumed that they would get on just fine; Muffin had other ideas! Right from the start she would put Waffle in her place, Muffin was top dog and she wasn’t going to have some wiper snapper take her place. As far as she was concerned Waffle was just a dog while she was our eldest daughter! When Waffle had puppies in 1997 Muffin would tolerate Eccles the pup we kept in a way she would never tolerated Waffle. She always slept in the kitchen the other two have always slept in the utility room. If we tried to sleep in, in the morning she would be out the cat flap and barking up at our window, she wouldn’t give up until one of us let her upstairs, then she would crawl on her belly looking all appealing until we gave in and let her up on the bed.
Right to the end she seemed remarkably healthy, and agile for her age, she was never ill except 3 years ago when she got bitten by an Adder she disturbed one morning in the garden, luckily we got her to the Vet in time and she made a full recovery. Then suddenly while racing to the door one day to greet a friend who had just arrived she keeled over. Our Vet took bloods and X-rays and discovered that her heart was 50% bigger than it should be and was pressing on her windpipe, she also had fluid in her lungs. We had, had no warning; she had not developed the usual cough associated with such conditions. Our Vet gave her diuretics and heart pills and she seemed to rally, but two weeks later she had another attack. Malcolm our Vet and a family friend fought to save her for nearly 2 hours but she had had enough. He took her off the oxygen and handed her to me, she gave my face one last lick before becoming unconscious, and she died in my arms a few minutes later. At least I was spared having to have her put to sleep.
We buried her in the orchard under a plum tree. We never intend to move from this house so she will always be with us, we shall never forget her. She was a very very special little dog.

The last picture of Selina taken on 6 Jan 05 in one of her favourite places: on the stairs so that she could see out of the window. She was still reasonably fit then.
We stayed at Coptfold last Saturday and Sunday and although she was not too well she insisted on walking round the block as she used to when she lived with my sister. She hadn't done that on other visits. So what did she know? On Monday evening she was not too well but managed to eat roast beef but by Tuesday she wasn't interested in much at all. On Wednesday I decided that I had to take her to the Vet. I managed to get her to eat some mince and she went into the garden for a look around, a wee and a couple of barks.
We saw the vet at 4.30 and the decision was that her heart was very enlarged, her temperature was down and she was quite pale. She was breathing heavily and her back legs were very weak.
The vet's verdict was that she could probably improve her health slightly but it would be for a very short term, maybe a week or two. Her little heart had had enough. How I hate that shitty job of having to decide on ending life. Her mummy (my sister) left instructions that she should be cremated, their ashes mixed and then scattered in the sea. This will probably take place either next weekend or the weekend after depending on when I get her ashes back. Although I have known her ever since she came to live with my sister she has only lived with me for about fourteen months. I thought that that was not long enough for her death to affect me as much as it would have affected my sister. How wrong I was. What a little sweetheart she was and I miss her terribly.
